TRAVEL TIPS

Tram and Train Travel

The Sydney Light Rail is an efficient link between Central Station, Darling Harbour, the Star City casino/entertainment complex, Sydney fish markets, and two inner western suburbs. The modern trams operate at 10- to 30-minute intervals 24 hours a day. One-way tickets are A$3.80. The main terminal for long-distance, intercity, and Sydney suburban trains is Central Station. There are a number of good-value train passes including the Backtracker Pass, which at A$298 (for three months) allows unlimited travel between Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, and Brisbane. Sydney's suburban train network, City Rail, links the city with dozens of suburbs as well as Blue Mountains and South Coast towns. Tickets start from A$4 one-way and are sold at all City Rail stations. Off-peak day return tickets are the best option.
